Free Ways to Reduce EMF Exposure in Your Home

We live in a world where almost everything around us is powered, connected, charging, syncing, or transmitting something.

Most people don’t think twice about sleeping next to a charging phone, working for hours with a laptop pressed against their body, or leaving Wi-Fi running 24/7 — even when nobody is using it. It’s simply become part of modern life.

But according to SATIC CEO B.D. Erickson II, many of the easiest ways to improve your home environment don’t involve expensive renovations or extreme lifestyle changes at all.

Sometimes, they’re completely free.

In a recent conversation with the Under The Sun Podcast — a wellness-focused platform exploring healthy living, modern environmental stressors, and intentional lifestyles — B.D. sat down to discuss practical ways people can reduce unnecessary EMF and dirty electricity exposure without disconnecting from the modern world. And that distinction matters.

Because at SATIC, the goal has never been fear around technology. The goal is awareness. Smarter habits. Better environments. More intentional living.

That philosophy shaped the entire conversation.

“Don’t Put Your Laptop on Your Lap”

One of the first things B.D. brought up during the interview was something millions of people do every single day without thinking about it.

“Don’t put your laptop on your lap”

Woman in orange hoodie using laptop, holding a mug, sits on couch with a gray tabby cat. Bookshelf and large window in the background. Cozy scene.

Modern electronics create electromagnetic fields, electrical activity, and heat while operating — especially when plugged in and charging. Resting those devices directly against the body for hours at a time has simply become

normalized because technology moved into our lives faster than most people ever stopped to question how we interact with it.

B.D.’s advice wasn’t extreme. It was practical.

Put the device on a table. Create a little distance. Don’t engage with it while it’s charging if you don’t have to. That balanced, non-paranoid approach is part of what made the conversation resonate so well.

Your Devices Aren’t Really "Off"

Another moment from the interview that caught people’s attention was B.D.’s reminder that many electronics never truly shut down anymore.

“When you turn things off, you have to realize they’re not really off.”

He’s right. Most modern devices remain in standby mode constantly waiting for a signal, update, or remote activation. Smart TVs, gaming systems, routers, streaming devices, appliances — many of them continue producing electrical activity even when they appear inactive. It simply means modern homes are now electrically active environments in ways homes weren’t decades ago. And once you start looking at your home through that lens, you begin noticing how many devices are operating around the clock unnecessarily.

Why Bedrooms Matter More Than Anywhere Else

One of the strongest themes throughout the conversation was the importance of reducing unnecessary electrical activity in sleeping environments.

“Don’t charge anything in your room at night when you’re trying to rest.”

It’s a surprisingly simple recommendation, but one that many people immediately realize makes sense the moment they hear it.

Smartphone charging on a gray couch, displaying a partial green battery icon. Plugged into a wall socket. Bright room with natural light.

Bedrooms are supposed to be recovery spaces. Yet for many people, they’ve unintentionally become some of the most electrically saturated rooms in the house — filled with chargers, Wi-Fi signals, smart devices, dimmers, clocks, TVs, tablets, and wireless accessories all operating simultaneously while the body is trying to rest.

That’s one reason many people begin their healthy-home journey with the bedroom first.

Not because they’re afraid of technology, but because they want the room designed for recovery to actually feel restorative again.

The Dimmer Switch Conversation

Then came one of the funniest moments of the podcast. Dimmers.

The comment was obviously made jokingly, but behind the humor was a legitimate power-quality conversation.

Many dimmer switches work by rapidly chopping electrical waveforms in order to control brightness. In modern homes already filled with LED lighting and electronic switching systems, dimmers can contribute additional harmonics and electrical distortion onto household wiring.

Of course, nobody wants to give up good lighting. Even B.D. joked about finding other ways to create ambiance.

But the larger point remained: Modern homes are electrically complicated now.

Solar systems. Smart appliances. LED lighting. Battery backups. Wi-Fi systems. Charging stations. Wireless technology. Everything is layered on top of everything else.

Most people have spent years thinking about clean water and clean air. Now it’s time to think about clean power too!

The Healthy Home Conversation Is Changing

That’s part of why conversations like this matter. The Under The Sun Podcast has built a platform around exploring modern wellness through a more intentional lens — covering everything from natural living and health optimization to environmental awareness and personal growth.

And increasingly, healthy-home conversations are moving beyond just food and fitness.

People are asking bigger questions:

-What’s in my air?

-What’s in my water?

-What’s happening behind my walls?

-What kind of electrical environment am I living in every day?

At SATIC, we see this shift happening constantly. Modern homes are more technologically advanced than ever before — but they’re also more electrically complex than ever before.

Supporting Cleaner Electrical Environments

For many homeowners, simple habits become the first step.

-Turning Wi-Fi off at night

-Charging devices outside the bedroom

-Creating distance from electronics

-Reducing unnecessary exposure where practical

Then, for people wanting additional support, SATIC offers systems specifically designed to help address dirty electricity and electrical distortion within the home.

Our Pure Power Plug-Ins are one of the easiest entry points. They’re designed for targeted support in specific areas like bedrooms, offices, apartments, or entertainment spaces — helping improve the electrical environment directly at the outlet level.

For homeowners looking for whole-home coverage, our Power Perfect Wire-In systems integrate directly into the electrical panel to support cleaner overall power quality throughout the home.

Technology Isn’t the Enemy

One of the best things about the conversation with Under The Sun Podcast was that it never drifted into fear-based messaging… Just practical awareness.

As B.D. explained during the interview:

“You can be exposed to some of it. We’re tough, but you don’t want to just be bathing in it unnecessarily.”

That may be the healthiest perspective of all. Technology is here to stay, and our goal is simply helping others to learn how to live with it more intentionally!
